AB Lietuvos Elektrenai has contracted Iberdrola Engineering & Construction (Iberdrola) for the expansion of the Elektrenai Power Plant in Elektrenai, Lithuania. Iberdrola will act as the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) company for the project. The project requires the import of power-generation components from outside of Lithuania. That components will be delivered to the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania.
Iberdrola has contracted World Logistics Services Corporation (WLSC) to provide services for the reception, handling, storage and transportation of these components from the Port of Klaipeda to the project site in Elektrenai. The power-generation components being received and transported includes several heavy-lift items, including cargo in excess of 300 tons. The handling and transportation of this cargo requires specialized transportation equipment – hydraulic gantry system, hydraulic platform trailers and specializes railcars. There are no companies in Lithuania that own this specialized transportation equipment, and therefore all of the equipment is being imported by WLSC into Lithuania on a temporary basis. Because the transportation equipment is not available in Lithuania, no Lithuanian companies have employees with the training, experience and knowledge to operate the equipment, and to safely transport the components.
WLSC has sub-contracted Transportes Montejo to provide the required equipment and personnel. Transportes Montejo has both the necessary transportation equipment and trained personnel needed to execute the reception, handling, storage and transportation of the heavy-lift equipment that is needed for the construction of the power-plant. The employees of Transportes Montejo being sent to Lithuania for the project have an average of ten years of technical work experience in heavy-lift transportation. The employees of Transportes Montejo posses the required training to operate the transportation equipment correctly and safely. Without bringing the employees of Transportes Montejo into Lithuania, there is no ability to safely operate the transportation equipment and effectively delivered the power-generation components to the Elektrenai project site.
